How To: Beat The Heat after Heading Home!

Has the scorching sun been irritating you like mad? It is, certainly to me. We all know the knacks of saving ourselves from the direct sun outside our homes; but what about when we head back? Should we drink cold water? Turn on the AC? Grab some ice to smear on our neck? What if there is no electricity? I mean, are there any other natural ways than these?? Wait-for-it; there is. Watch out for some inexpensive ways that can help you cool down:

1. Let the drapes go down: To stay away from the sun's heat, stay away from it's light. Put the curtains down, so that your room stays as normal as possible, temperature wise. Woven screens/ bamboo shades can block out 60-80% of the sun heat. You can also hang a wet soaked sheet over your open windows, to let that hot breeze turn into cool breeze as the wind blows inside your room.

2. Pour some water on your cooling body points: You might have seen rickshawalas and other certain guys donning on a little handkerchief behind their neck, ever wondered why? Do you know it's reason? If not, I'm here to tell you that its one way to cool down your body. We have some specific heat-generating body parts, and so, if we're able to control them down - we'll be able to cool our whole body, eventually. Dab some water on your wrists, behind your neck, temples, elbows, and joint creases to start off and experience how light you feel after that.

3. Sleep in an eagle position: Spread your wings (arms) wide open and let that hot air (emitting from your body)  rise above . When you sleep with your hands and legs wide open in a bed where no one else is sleeping in - air flows in a much faster way and your body cools down faster. It allows air to circulate everywhere around your body, which indeed helps lower down your body heat. And just in moments, you'll feel light as feather in no time! Go eagles!

4. Unplug all the electronic devices: This might not seem too real or believable, but it does affect us. Electronic devices that are currently working in your room - are actually emitting heat waves. And so, to simply stop this unnecessary hot-feeling, switch it off for sometime. Specially, when you come home from outside and feel too heat-jagged. Your room will feel much better as well as your body and mind.

5. Drink plenty of water: Staying hydrated is very important during summer days. But why just plain water? Opt for what you like to drink, it could be rose water, or glucose or electral (If you can handle that taste without vomiting), lime water, coconut water, gaane-ka-juice, and that will immediately put you at cool mode.

6. Take a quick cool shower: Have a chilled bath after you've come home, but not-so-soon. Often people take a shower as they step-in, but that's not a good idea. Exposing your body surface to the cold water immediately after coming from outside will contract your blood vessels, which will push that heat into the inner organs of the body. And that's not gonna be right for your well-being, trust me.

7. Remove your current clothes: As soon as you step in to your home, change your clothes into something more light-colored and loose-fitted cotton fabrics, the ones you may also call ghar-ke-kapde. The feels of the sweat might make you more conscious of the heat that is stinging you; and practically blocking your body to breathe well. So, changing into something fresh, will help to make you feel fresh and calmer.

8. Apply Aloe Vera: You can spritz yourself some cool aloe vera juice direct from the refrigerator or apply aloe vera gel on your face. The properties that aloe vera consists is good enough to make you feel cooler, just in minutes. It also soothes burns.  Although, make sure to clean your face first from all that sweaty texture you accumulated from the outside, before you don on some fresh aloe gel.

Your best friend is your body, take care of it now and it will take care of you later.
